The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

What evidence can you provide to prove your understanding of each of the following citeria?
Prepare for testing
Submitted sample is checked to ensure it is in an intact, moisture-proof container with as much air as possible excluded. Completed |
Evidence:
Appropriate apparatus are selected for seed moisture testing. Completed |
Evidence:
Temperature of submitted sample in container is equilibrated to that of the testing laboratory. Completed |
Evidence:
Exposure of sample to the atmosphere of the laboratory is reduced to an absolute minimum according to the species and ISTA requirements. Completed |
Evidence:
Prepare samples for drying
Submitted sample is thoroughly mixed. Completed |
Evidence:
A minimum three subsamples are taken and combined to form a working sample of the required size. Completed |
Evidence:
Exposure to air during sample reduction is limited to thirty seconds. Completed |
Evidence:
Where cutting or grinding is required, one working sample is prepared so that two replicates can be drawn from the cut/ground material. Completed |
Evidence:
Pre-drying is carried out where moisture content exceeds ISTA requirements. Completed |
Evidence:
Containers and lids are weighed before and after filling. Completed |
Evidence:
Weighing procedures conform with ISTA requirements and weight is expressed in grams to at least three decimal places. Completed |
Evidence:
Lids are kept on containers until samples are placed in oven. Completed |
Evidence:
Dry and weigh sample
Working sample is evenly distributed over surface of the container. Completed |
Evidence:
Open containers and their lids are placed rapidly into an oven that is maintained at the required temperature for the species being tested. Completed |
Evidence:
Drying period commences once oven returns to the required temperature after placement of containers. Completed |
Evidence:
At the end of prescribed drying period, containers have their lids replaced before cooling to ambient temperature in desiccators. Completed |
Evidence:
After cooling, the containers with lids and dried contents are weighed. Completed |
Evidence:
Calculate results
Moisture content is expressed as a percentage of the weight of the original sample. Completed |
Evidence:
Result of test is reported according to enterprise guidelines. Completed |
